I like that my Olympus PEN E-PL1 has the option to shoot using a 6x6 frame. I really want to use my digital camera the same way that I would use any film camera, so I hardly ever crop my digital shots, and change the format back and forth from 3:2 to 6:6. I have more of a tendency feel the need to alter color, contrast and saturation with digital shots, though, whereas with film, I very rarely find that necessary. It really depends on the quality of the scanned CD I receive from processing. I only altered contrast slightly using Photoshop on these shots.

ReplyDeleteI love these images, Mia! I am so glad I have found your website again. I too am a lover of the square format. I often crop my images square. I love the way you captured that abandoned space. The colours are great. I love that little bit of lens flare we see on some of them.
ReplyDeleteI frequently play with things like exposure, contrast, colour balance, etc. on images from my digital cameras. I find they often don't capture the scene the way I see it, or the way I want it. Even with film, because I have to rely on a commercial developer, I have to help a little with contrast (especially). They just don't develop as I used to.
And I love b&w, and since I can do a better conversion than the camera, I do that afterwards too.
You have inspired me, I must say. I have a fridge full of 120 and 220 film and my Yashica tlr has been sitting idle for too long. I am taking some film out and tomorrow we (camera and I) are heading out for an adventure! :)
I can't wait to see your TLR photos, Larry! I wish I had a place to develop 120 locally. That's the only thing that prevents me from shooting with it.
